Just wanted to post a message saying that I made it home safely... just two hours behind schedule.
I wanted to leave Nashville by 9AM, but I knew that wouldn't happen. If I did leave then, I'd be home by 7:30PM eastern time. But, instead, I didn't leave my apartment until 9:15 (not too bad, considering this is me I'm talking about), and I decided to run by school long enough to go to the bookstore and get a shirt. Then I had to run back to my apartment since I forgot something, then go get gas, then I was on my way... around 10:05. So I'm already an hour late.
It seems like there was road work every 15 miles on I-40 going out of Nashville. Bridge work everywhere slowing everyone down. Then things got smoother. I hit the time zone line and got two miles down the road... and came to a complete stop. I didn't know what was going on, but I assumed there had been a wreck. Didn't know where it was, either. Traffic was stop and go (mostly stop) for eight miles. A couple of times we managed to move slowly about a mile before having to stop again. Anyway, the whole thing took one hour to get out of. At this time, I was thinking that something didn't want me to go home.
Anyway, a tractor trailer was the cause of the problem. From what I could gather, the cargo trailer was destroyed. The cab looked fine, though. There was a huge mound of sand on the road in the shoulder, though I doubt that was in the cargo trailer (so it must have been used for something else). I didn't see any cargo, though. But since this happened on an overpass... I guess the cargo could have fallen onto the road underneath, but I'm not sure. So that's what it was.
But anyway, I made it home safe and sound, just a little more weary since it took me longer to get here. Oh well, vacation starts tomorrow!
